Wood product information & Care tips
Solid wood furniture & doors are considered to be highly durable, long-lasting, and reliable. Previously, it was common for handcrafted wood furniture to be passed down in families from one generation to the next, as family heirlooms. Extra care can be taken to help ensure the longevity of any solid wood furniture.
As wood is a natural product, it is susceptible to aging & various changes over time. These changes may include darkening, lightening, shifting, cracking, splitting, spotting, warping, etc. Sometimes, these changes are desirable and aesthetically pleasing; alternatively, wood changes may be undesirable and unsightly. This will depend on the type of wood, type of finish, and personal preferences. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Some level of wood aging is unavoidable. However, it can be greatly reduced by limiting exposure to weather elements (rain, UV rays, wind, dirt, hail, snow, etc.), temperature fluctuations (indoor & outdoor), condensation from cups placed on wood surfaces, water spills, etc.
Wood finishes can be damaged by contact with harsh chemicals (bleach, vinegar, chlorinated water, baking soda, store-bought wood cleaning products, etc.) & cleaning with sharp objects (steel mesh sponges, rough bristled nylon brushes, etc.).
We recommend cleaning your wood furniture with a soft, damp, microfiber cloth. Avoid rough cleaning tools and harsh chemicals, even ones that may be labeled as “wood-safe”. Clean up spills as soon as possible to help prevent absorption. Preserve the integrity of your solid wood patio furniture by storing it underneath pergolas, covered patios, and other shade structures.
Understanding the basics of how to care for your natural wood product and avoiding common mistakes can help ensure that it lasts for many years to come. Please feel free to reach out to us with any additional questions.
